Food Diversity Day: Burgenland's craftsmanship demonstrates its strength
On July 31st, the focus is on the food industry. To mark Food Diversity Day, the Burgenland State Guild of Food Trades is highlighting the achievements of more than 300 businesses that produce regional food products daily, making a significant contribution to food supply, value creation, and training. State Guild Master Thomas Hatwagner emphasizes that food diversity doesn't happen by itself. It is the result of skilled craftsmanship, high-quality raw materials, and the daily dedication of many entrepreneurs and their employees. The food industry, in particular, uniquely combines quality, regionality, and personal responsibility.
Craftsmanship ensures regional supply
The food industry in Burgenland ranges from traditional family businesses to specialized craft enterprises. Together, they ensure local food supplies and create jobs and apprenticeships in the region. At the same time, they contribute to securing regional value creation and passing on artisanal knowledge to the next generation.
Bakers combine tradition with modern demands.
The baking trade also thrives on experience, craftsmanship, and passion. Deputy State Guild Master Michael Goldenitsch points out that there's far more to fresh bread and pastries than just a recipe. Precision, time, and a feel for the dough are just as important as the ability to combine traditional baking techniques with the desires of today's customers. The selection ranges from classic pastries to innovative bread specialties.
Pastry chefs create special moments of pleasure.
For pastry chefs, the combination of craftsmanship and creativity is paramount. Guild master Evelyne Goldenits points out that cakes, pastries, and chocolates are often part of special occasions and accompany people during celebrations or small moments of indulgence in everyday life. Thus, the pastry chef's craft combines technical skill with design and emotion.
Pasta demonstrates the power of simple ingredients
Pasta producers also exemplify the diversity of regional food production. Winfried Bischof, deputy head of the state guild, emphasizes that products made from just a few carefully selected ingredients are indispensable in many kitchens. Crucial to this success are the quality of the raw materials, precise processing, and many years of experience.
Education remains the foundation for the future
The Day of Food Diversity also puts the training of young professionals in the spotlight. Businesses impart their craft knowledge, train apprentices, and thus secure the future of their industries. Those who choose a career in the food sector work with their own hands, take on responsibility, and see the results of their work every day. It is precisely this combination of craftsmanship, regional roots, and personal commitment that makes the food trade an indispensable part of Austria's local food supply.
