Joseph Brot and Resch&Frisch are entering into a strategic partnership. Together, the two Austrian bakery companies have developed three organic baked goods made with rare, local grains. From September 14, 2026, they will be available throughout Austria via Resch&Frisch's home delivery service , Back's Zuhause.
Joseph Brot contributes its expertise in organic baking and heritage grains to the collaboration. Resch&Frisch provides its distribution network and nationwide home delivery in Austria. The resulting products include an organic multigrain crusty roll, an organic brioche bagel, and an organic Bircher muesli roll.
Ancient grains from Austria
The products are based on the "Ur-Gut" (Original Good) initiative launched by Joseph Brot. Together with 24 small-scale farming families, 17 heritage grain varieties are currently cultivated in six Austrian states. These include, among others, Lungau Tauern rye, Sipbachzell wheat, einkorn, and various ancient spelt varieties.
The organic grain crusty roll uses, among other things, Waldstauden rye from Lower Austria, Lungau Tauern rye, and Laufener Landweizen from Salzburg, as well as ancient spelt. The brioche bagel contains einkorn, Sipbachzell wheat, ancient spelt, and Binkel semolina. Ancient spelt is the main grain ingredient in the Bircher muesli roll.
Cooperation instead of parallel development
The cooperation originated from an exchange between Georg Resch , owner and managing director of Resch&Frisch, and Josef Weghaupt, founder of Joseph Brot. Both companies have been working with Austrian farms for years.
According to its own statements, Resch&Frisch cooperates with more than 200 Austrian contract farmers. Joseph Brot, with its Ur-Gut initiative, focuses specifically on old regional varieties and small-scale farms.
The three new products were developed by Joseph Brot and then jointly tailored to the product range and requirements of Resch&Frisch home delivery.

135,000 households as a new sales channel
The baked goods are approximately 80 percent pre-baked and delivered frozen. Finish baking takes place at home in a conventional oven, a Resch&Frisch oven, or an air fryer.
This gives Joseph Brot access to a significantly larger sales territory. The company currently has ten locations in Vienna, Linz, and Salzburg. According to Resch&Frisch, Back's Zuhause supplies around 135,000 households in Austria.
The two companies in the sector also meet economically: Resch&Frisch achieved a turnover of around 155 million euros in 2025, four percent more than in the previous year. Joseph Brot achieved a turnover of 26 million euros in the same year.
Organic product range will be available throughout Austria.
For Resch&Frisch, the cooperation expands its existing product range to include artisan-style organic products featuring rare grain varieties. Joseph Brot, in turn, can now offer products from its Ur-Gut initiative throughout Austria for the first time via this distribution channel.
For the local baking industry, the approach is particularly interesting: Two established family businesses do not rely on a classic supplier relationship, but combine different competencies from product development and raw material knowledge to logistics and direct delivery to private households.
The three collaborative products can be ordered by telephone, via the Resch&Frisch online shop and via the Resch&Frisch app from September 14, 2026.
